In-Between Years

from Growing Pains (Bonus) by Siobhan Donnelly

/

lyrics

We don’t have proper weekends like those reals adults do
We have to grab these moments though they be far and they be few
In order to remind ourselves to be young and be free
And that we still have time to grow into what we want to be

Back in school we all knew we would go far
But nowadays we dream of affording a car
Our part time jobs in retail aren’t quite what we had planned
And most of us still dream about forming a band

We’re still too young to feel totally jaded
But old enough that our hope has faded

We’re stuck in these between years that are never going to end
So music and alcohol become our firmest friends
The adult world won’t let us in and our childhood’s let us go
So we stand by each other cause it’s all that we know

When last orders have been called we spill out into the street
To us hazy morning light has never seemed so sweet
This broken band of weary friends, stagger slowly homeward bound
Putting off the moment reality comes back round

We’re still too young to feel totally jaded
But old enough that our hope has faded

Empty pint glasses help us fight the system
Filling us with grand ideas and dubious optimism
Although our mad capped plans will never come to fruition
There the only thing we’ve got, all that we’ve been given

We’re still too young to feel totally jaded
But old enough that our hope has faded

Empty pint glasses help us fight the system
Filling us with grand ideas and dubious optimism
Although our mad capped plans will never come to fruition
They’re pretty bloody epic, if you’ll just give them a listen
